Welcome Honors Alumni and Friends
The Irvin D. Reid Honors College is city-based and service-oriented; we promote excellence — as all Honors projects do — but we make the further demand of our students that they engage the world around them, as problem-solvers, that they inform themselves about what it means to be citizens, of this city, this country, the world. Help us make real the promise of informed, engaged citizenship to the next generation of leaders and teachers, scientists, artists, and musicians.
Supporting Honors means helping students who will excel, graduate, and receive the best student support on campus. Studies show that students who receive significant scholarship support – in addition to regular ongoing advising and staff support – graduate sooner and are more connected to their field of study. 90% of Honors graduates go on to graduate or professional school. In fact, 100% of Honors graduates since 2002 who have applied to medical school, got in.
Honors provides what students need to be successful, and what parents want for their young scholars: a stable campus home complete with a residential community; opportunities to become involved in the community and their discipline; and professional staff who work closely with students. In Honors, students are frequently involved in conversations about their progress towards degree completion, career opportunities, national scholarship and fellowship possibilities, and social and personal development.
I hope you will help us build the Irvin D. Reid Honors College at Wayne State University. For more information, please contact Honors at (313) 577-3030.
